Using a Web cam to broadcast live video or monitor remotely

Using Web cam to broadcast live video

What equipments do I need for using a Web cam to broadcast live video or monitor remotely?

  • An Internet ready PC (Windows XP/Vista/7)
  • Internet connection
  • A USB camera or capture card which support WDM driver
  • Webcam 1-2-3 or Watchdog software
  • Windows compatible sound card (optional)
With Webcam 1-2-3 or Watchdog, you can broadcast live video from your computer easily.

Bandwidth requirement

  • Viewing by ActiveX

  • This method allows you to serve more viewers with lower frame rate.

  • Viewing by Windows Media™ Streaming

  • Select this method if you need to broadcast audio as well. Windows Media™ provides better video quality for streaming if you have limited bandwidth. If you enable Windows Media™ Streaming, you can refer to Compression data rate table. You can select a data rate based on your uplink bandwidth. For example, if you have 512 kbps uplink and select 96 kbps data rate, your bandwidth may be able to support up to 5 concurrent viewers.

Note: Viewing by Windows Media™ streaming is limited to 10 concurrent connections.
