| Using a Web cam to broadcast live video or monitor remotely
|
What equipments do I need for using a Web cam to broadcast live video or monitor remotely?
- An Internet ready PC (Windows XP/Vista/7)
- Internet connection
- A USB camera or capture card which support WDM driver
- Webcam 1-2-3 or Watchdog software
- Windows compatible sound card (optional)
With Webcam 1-2-3 or Watchdog, you can broadcast live video from your
computer easily.
Bandwidth requirement
- Viewing by ActiveX
This method allows you to serve more viewers with lower frame rate.
- Viewing by Windows Media Streaming
Select this method if you need to broadcast audio as well.
Windows Media provides better video quality for streaming if you have limited
bandwidth. If you enable Windows Media Streaming, you can refer to
Compression data rate table.
You can select a data rate based on your uplink bandwidth. For example,
if you have 512 kbps uplink and select 96 kbps data rate, your bandwidth
may be able to support up to 5 concurrent viewers.
Download Webcam 1-2-3
Download Watchdog
Note: Viewing by Windows Media streaming is limited to 10 concurrent connections.
